Welcome to 1st Heaton Norris

1st Heaton Norris Scout Group is one of twenty-two scout groups in Stockport District, which is part of Greater Manchester East County, which is part of the Worldwide Family of Scouting. Scouting prepares young people with skills for life, and that is what we strive to achieve with all our young people.

Within 1st Heaton Norris, we have a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop. All three sections meet at our scout hut each Monday night.

What we do...

At 1st Heaton Norris, we are dedicated to creating engaging and dynamic programmes that provide our young people with countless opportunities to have fun while simultaneously learning new skills and mastering existing ones.

Scouting is fundamentally about building friendships and participating in adventurous experiences that many may not typically have the chance to enjoy. As a Scout, you will equip yourself with valuable skills at a young age - skills that others may not gain until much later in life. From practical skills like tying knots and lashings, to the art of building fires, and safely using saws, knives, and axes; to the very basics of pitching tents and reading maps, every aspect of Scouting prepares you for the future. Aside from the ability to survive in the wild, you will also learn critical first aid techniques and appreciate how to work well as a team - these invaluable lessons and experiences all begin right here at 1st Heaton Norris.

Camps and Events

Throughout the year, we organise several camps and events away from the hut. In the Beavers section, most of these are day trips along with one camp, while in the Scout section, we can have as many as six or seven camps each year.

Scout Camps

Camps are held either on weekends or during the school holidays. Some camps are indoors, others are outdoors. Some are for the whole group, district or county, others are just one section.

Day Trips

Some day trips focus on earning badges that can't be completed during troop nights, while others simply offer a fantastic day out with activities like climbing, archery, or shooting.

Parades

The Scout Association is an organisation with over a century of tradition. A key aspect of our heritage is demonstrating respect for others through parades on St. George's Day and Remembrance Day.
